Why Did You Join?

There are so many reasons I joined SIA. Being a first-generation Latina at a PWI in honors housing was an extremely isolating experience for me. Although I excelled in school and other activities during my first two years of college, I felt like something was missing. That something was the connection to my community and my roots. SIAs were known on campus for their leadership, advocacy, and community work. They were confident in themselves and spoke out for those who needed a voice. They gave me a glimpse of what I aspired to be. Since then, I have benefited from our sisterhood and have received mentorship from countless Hermanas. SIA has provided me with a network that many first-generation professionals do not have access to. Today, I am honored to pay it forward.
